Hi Friends!! Happy Tuesday!!! Today I have another interview from my Balanced and Bold Series. Katie is from Greenville, South Carolina and is a fellow Sweat Pink Ambassador. I’m so excited to share this with you all! I feel so fortunate to have been able to catch up with ladies from all over! I hope you enjoy “meeting” Katie today! After reading, be sure to hop over to Pickles2Pushups to read my interview with Katie.
Hi Katie!! Welcome to Keep it Real Clean. Can you introduce yourself?
I am a Registered Dietitian in the Greenville, SC area. I have my Personal Training certification from NASM and recently completed my Master’s in Exercise Science. I’m originally from the DC area, but have been living in Greenville for about 4 years. I work full-time as a bariatric dietitian and do nutrition counseling in my off hours. I love to swim, hike and be outdoors when I’m not working. DIY projects have also recently become my addiction!
I love DIY! It sounds like you’re quite the creative lady. How about your blog? Tell us about it!
Pickles2pushups.com is a combination of nutrition, exercise and everyday life. I like to be a resource for people to pursue their wellness goals. I include workouts, recipes and nutrition information to help educate people on food and fitness. I also like to debunk myths about the nutrition industry that many times we get caught up in.
Why were you inspired to start your blog?
I started my blog to encourage others in their pursuit of a healthy lifestyle. I love to share nutrition information, workouts and daily life tidbits that can help motivate others to take the next step with their own goals and desires. My blog also serves as an encouragement to myself and my accountability buddy for continuing to work on my own healthy lifestyle.
That’s so great. I don’t know how you actually fit it all in on top of work, travel, life, etc. Any tricks for squeezing blogging into your life?
Blogging comes pretty naturally in the sense that I write about what I do everyday. My patients and clients are often the inspiration for many of my blog posts. I try to answer their questions or write about things that come up in the news. I feel as though the topic is the hardest part, so once I get inspired I set aside some time the night before a post to write everything out. For people who are interested in getting into blogging: as long as you are passionate about the topics you’re blogging about, it doesn’t take a great deal of time to write a post!
What about working out? How do you fit in your workouts? What’s your typical workout schedule like?
Workouts can definitely be difficult to fit in with my ever-changing schedule. I generally try to wake up early to get a workout in before work. I recently got back into running (after about a year hiatus where I wasn’t interested in it before!) so 3-4 days a week consist of a run. The other 2-3 days a week are usually strength training or yoga. I take at least 1 day a week for rest.
How about balancing healthy eating? Any tips for maintaining a healthy diet while keeping up with a busy lifestyle?
I try to keep healthy snacks around to avoid the poor ‘hangry’ decisions I can make. I keep almonds, baby carrots, hummus, fruit and peanut butter at work with me. I love using my crockpot to make meals because it is so easy and convenient. A little prep work on the front side means that dinner is ready by the time I get home! I also encourage all my clients to meal plan. Take some time on Sunday to write down what you plan to eat for the week. Meal planning can not only cut down on preparation time, but also on cost!
Love a little meal prep, but how about those days you forget to plan for? Whats your favorite quick healthy recipe?
My favorite quick healthy recipe is my mom’s broccoli slaw. This dish is packed with good nutrients, fiber and healthy fats. I am seriously addicted to this stuff!
After its all done…how do you like to relax?
I love Netflix so that is probably one of my favorite ways to relax. I also enjoy reading and checking out other blogs. Bubble baths can’t be beat too…put that on the list!
I saw that you just took an AMAZING trip! If so, whats your traveling philosophy? Do you let yourself just go wild and have a break or are you still strict on vacation? Incorporate workouts and health snacks and meals?
I am definitely the type of person that thinks you should try everything while you are traveling. Traveling is typically a once in a lifetime experience. Most of my traveling tends to include A LOT of walking or activity, which means that I have a little bit more room in my diet for indulgences. Depending on the type of traveling I do and if i’m training for something in particular, I will incorporate additional workouts. I like to bring my own snacks on planes because I like to have options when my body says it’s time for fuel!
Thanks so much Katie! I have a few more bloggers that will be joining in for this series before its completed. I’m hoping by sharing these posts not only do you connect and discover new bloggers, but that you also learn a new trick to learn how to really balance it all. After all, isn’t that what its all about 😉
