Happy Tuesday!! Hope you all are having a lovely, lovely morning. I’m excited to share with you all the next blogger in these series! Janelle is a local blogger from Philadelphia. I was fortunate to be able to meet her through the lovely City Fit Girls group. Amazing how fitness can lead to friends! Add that to the list of benefits 😉 Okay! Let’s get to it! Welcome Janelle from Run with No Regrets!
SO JANELLE! Welcome! Okay, first things first…Tell us about yourself.
I’m Janelle, and I’ve been living in Philadelphia for nearly 11(!) years now. My day job is as a project manager and I have a background in chemical engineering. I’ve been running since 2011 and I’m a big fan of local restaurants, trying new workouts, traveling, and just having fun as I get closer and closer to my 30’s…
YUM! Philly has such an awesome food scene! How about your little space on the internet? Can you tell us about your blog?
I blog at Run With No Regrets, and it’s a place that’s all about living a healthy life and having the right attitude to get there! I share posts about race training and running tips, but I also discuss healthy eating, trying new workouts, and some of the things going on in my life. It has been so fun being a part of the blogging community. I’m grateful to have such a captive audience that I hope continues to grow!
So great, Philly has such a lovely blogging and fitness group. I love it! So, why were you inspired to start your blog?
I was just coming off of a months-long foot injury that kept me from running. Since I was finally going to be able to get back on the road, I thought it would be fun to write about my experiences, and maybe track my workouts to better monitor any potential running injuries. My blog has evolved so much since my first post 2 years ago, but I still love to talk about running first and foremost!
It looks like you’re quite the busy bee! How do you fit in blogging into your life?
It’s really challenging to have enough time to dedicate to blogging, but I do my best to get it done! I take advantage of the weekends and try to write/prepare as far in advance as possible. I also use automation tools like Buffer, CoSchedule and Tailwind so that I’m not so stressed out about the social media side of things. Really, any time that I can squeeze to do blog stuff, I take it.
Oh my goodness! It sounds like you have quite the schedule but make time for whats important. How about working out? How do you fit in your workouts?
Working out is actually a big part of my life, so it ranks pretty high on my list of things to do! I honestly rearrange my social life based on my running schedule! I do get tired/lazy sometimes and don’t do my cross-training workouts as often as I like (which is bad, I know!). I try to either use my lunch hour, right after work, or first thing in the morning on the weekends to work it out!
That’s great! I love that you literally find a time for everything! Whats your typical workout schedule like?
I’m training for a 10K right now, so my main focus is running 4 days a week, usually Monday, Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday. My runs vary from 3 miles to 6 miles and higher for long runs, and I’m starting to play with speed work. In between my runs I try to do boot camp workouts and yoga for cross training/strength training once a week. There are lots of fun, free activities this summer to try in Philly, so it’s very inspiring!
Wow! It sounds like your workouts are so varied. What do you keep in your gym bag to keep up with all of that!
My gym bag usually has a water bottle, towel, some toilettes, cross training/running shoes, and my workout outfit for the day. Sometimes I have my weighted gloves for my lunchtime cardio kickboxing class.
I love your recipe posts! You definitely seem to balance fun and healthy eating. Do you have any tips for maintaining a healthy diet while keeping up with a busy lifestyle?
Eating healthy can be really tough on a tight schedule. I always make sure to prepare my own lunches to take to work so that I’m not tempted by all of the pizza, hoagies, and fast food that so many others like to eat. If you make it a habit to plan your meals on a weekly basis, you’ll have a better chance to stick to the healthy stuff! But beware – don’t be TOO rigid, otherwise you may sabotage your efforts and binge eat on Twizzlers (oh wait, that’s just me…)!
Haha, no way! Everyone has those moments! So, when you cook at home…any quick healthy recipe?
The funny thing is my boyfriend says that my meals always take too long to make. But one of my favorite quick healthy meals is homemade pizza! I found a recipe from Better Homes and Gardens. You can use a premade or instant dough to start and all you need is a little tomato sauce, basil, low fat cheese, red peppers, tomatoes mushrooms, olive oil and spices – pop it in the oven at 425 F for 10 minutes and you’re good to go!
YUM! Pizza is the best. We love to stay in, make homemade pizza and have chill nights. How about you? Favorite ways to relax?
Sometimes it seems like I never relax! But seriously, watching mindless television is very relaxing to me, like General Hospital or Dance Moms! I’m pretty much addicted to the internet, so sometimes you can find me on those awful celebrity gossip sites like TMZ! Being at home, stretched out on my couch, is one of my favorite places to be.
