Good Morning friends!! Summer is here which means 2 things for breakfast: a.) The more time outside the better and b.) Icy cold smoothies are back! I have a hard time drinking something cold in the winter time for breakfast, but bring on the warm temperatures and I’m all about sipping a smoothie for breakfast while I walk. Last week I was rushing around in the morning and decided to throw in a few fruits and veggies into the blender to take for a smoothie to go (sipping a straw as a power walk to work #multitasking). It was pretty much the cherry on top of a good morning.
The other night we were at a friend’s house and we were talking about a recent smoothie fail. (wild night, eh?) But basically, when we started talking about the smoothie he had decided to make basically a “kitchen sink” smoothie with all sorts of STUFF packed in…fruit, vegetables, honey, cocoa powder, grilled chicken…just kidding, but the man had a lot packed into this thing. Life (smoothies) are all about balance. Try this for a balanced smoothie!
The nice thing about smoothies are that for the most part you don’t need to follow a definite recipe, but on the flip side, you can easily end up with a smoothie that can’t blend (too packed!) or you can end up with a smoothie with way too many battling flavors. I’ve found that if you add too much of some foods the flavors compete and its un-sipable. I’m no smoothie expert, but in my experience two things that I’ve found impact flavor…too many fats (avocado and peanut butter anddd coconut oil) or adding too many acidic fruits (such as pineapple, oranges, kiwi, pomegranate).
Strawberry Greens Smoothie
1 cup chopped kale
1 cup cocout milk
1/2 cup frozen strawberries
1/2 cup iced cups
1 scoop Protein powder
Lately, I’ve been loving this recipe inspired by my recent farm share strawberries and kale! Yum. Blend it up, pour in a cup with a straw and go!
