Guys! Pretty much one of the best things happened this weekend. My fiance has been telling me for a while now that he would do a race with me and (in all fairness) has made some really good attempts, including signing us up for a race, but I was unable to go due to travel. BUT, it finally happened! AND the best part was, not only did I run with him, but also with his Mom and Sister. His Mom turned “21” this past Sunday and as a goal prior to this milestone birthday she had set out to run a race. Pretty awesome, huh? We had originally planned to complete a Turkey Trot, but plans were derailed when I ended up having to work on Thanksgiving. Luckily, we found a 5k the day before her birthday! And, honestly, how many runs do you know that include blow up inflatables, people dressed like elves and constant Christmas music? That’s right.
We ran the Ugly Sweater 5k at Fairmount Park in Philadelphia, PA. The race was actually awesome and as you may have guessed from the set up and brief description, carefree. There was no timing, no “gun” start, and the water stations also included hot chocolate…but that’s what made it great. Not to mention, these great hats…
After the race, we all came back to our house and had brunch. I made this breakfast casserole, which was a perfect finish. The casserole was egg, sweet potato, kale, green onion, and turkey sausage.
All in all, the race (and the day!) was great and so glad that we got to spend a Saturday together doing something healthy and fun…even if it did end in a beer at the finish line and bottle or so at dinner 😉 But, the cherry on top? Now my fiance wants to pick a race for us to do again soon!!
